Christmas 2011 {Part 1}

I didn’t realize how many pictures I had, and if I try and do one post, it’s going to take 2 hours to write. I’ll try and get it all posted in different parts so I don’t bore everyone to tears. We woke up on Christmas Eve pretty excited because it snowed! It wasn’t much and was gone by that afternoon, but it did snow a little bit.

We met at my mom’s house mid-morning to start the fun filled Christmas weekend. My Grandma, uncles, aunt, and cousins all came over for a day of relaxing, lots of food and a gift exchange later in the day.

CECollage

For appetizers, we had chips and salsa, cheese and salami, cheese dips and crackers, my mom’s famous chip beef dip and 5 million cookies. You can tell where my priorities are, because I didn’t get one picture of the actual Christmas Eve dinner which was ham, ranch “crack” potatoes, spicy corn casserole and a vegetable tray. DSC_0338

And then for dessert I made the ultimate in Christmas desserts, a white chocolate peppermint cheesecake. The recipe originally called for peppermint extract, but I decided to get creative and crushed a box of candy canes instead. Perfection. This was my first cheesecake I’ve ever made, and I have to say it was delightful!

Since dinner was taking a little longer than expected, we decided to exchange gifts so the little kids would have some new toys to keep them entertained and so we wouldn’t have to hear “Is Santa on his way?” One more time!!

My gifts: a lazy susan vegetable tray (that I’ll be putting to use for my new year’s eve party), a cookbook (that I want to try every recipe!) and two candles.

And the party animal, who along with his 2 week old brother kept their poor parents up all night long…

After my Grandma and uncles and cousins left, it was my family, my mom and brothers and two little babies for the night. We put the kids to bed and then set up Santa gifts, stockings and finished wrapping some gifts.

And that ends part 1…I’ll do another portion later!!!

Merry Christmas {Eve}

Once my kids wake up, I’m not sure when I’ll have time to post again until Monday, but I wanted to say Merry Christmas to you all. I hope this holiday season was one of joy and you were able to create memories and enjoy your friends and family…the way it should be!

Merry Christmas from my family to yours! xoxo

What Christmas is all about

I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago talking about what the JcPenney snow globes mean to me.  A few days later, a woman at church who’s husband works at JcPenney gave one to my Mom and she was thrilled. I was happy my Mom got one, but was still pretty upset that my own snow globe collection would always have a missing year.

I received an email from Biz, and she asked for my mailing address, no questions asked. I forgot all about that email until I went to get the mail today and saw a shiny red/white striped package in my mail box. As I sat reading the card, tears started streaming down my face. She saw my post and then found an auction on Ebay for the snow globe and won it for me.

My collection is now complete and my heart is full of gratitude. Christmas was my Dad’s favorite time of year and it’s a very hard time of year without him. Biz, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This, my friends, is what Christmas is all about.

Merry Christmas!!!

{Dreaming of a} White Christmas

In all my years of living in Michigan, this is going to be the first that there isn’t snow on the ground, or is there snow predicted for Christmas. I’m hoping for some Christmas magic!! We did get a little bit of snow (that is already melted away) so maybe by posting these pictures, a little Christmas magic will come our way!!

DSC_0112

There is nothing like the quiet after a snow fall. Everything is so peaceful and calm.

DSC_0114

I love how it coats the bushes and especially the bushes that have lights on them.

DSC_0116

Even my Christmas bell had a little bit of “frosting” from the fresh snowfall.

DSC_0119

In other news, I’m almost done Christmas shopping. The only person left on my list is the husband.

Are you done shopping or will you be out until Saturday {like I will be…} trying to finish?

By the light of the tree

I have a crap ton of pictures on my memory card that need to be blogged about, so bare with me as I get them all posted! I’ve been playing around with my camera and the settings (trying to break free from “auto” mode) and took some of the tree and other decorations.

And then thanks to Pinterest, I took this one of my kiddies last night and I really like how it turned out.

DSC_0233

I’m going to try it again tonight with our tree and them in their Christmas pajamas.

Speaking of posting, I am going to start adding in meal and exercise posts again, just got a little bit off track…

So Delicious Christmas

I received some coupons from So Delicious to try out three different products, I knew the first two would be used on two things I have heard a lot about recently.

DSC_0092

Mint Chocolate Coconut Milk and Nog Coconut Milk. I’m not sure what I’ll be doing with the Mint Chocolate other than drinking it straight out of the container, but the Nog will be made into yummy Nog flavored oatmeal.

DSC_0091

I also picked up French Vanilla creamer that I have some ideas for. Trying to get creative with it since I don’t drink coffee, but I’m determined to find a way to use it!

Any ideas to use these products? If you give me an idea, I’ll name it after you and will make it! So, bring on the ideas!!!

Silver Balls

Back in the day, radio stations did not play 24/7 Christmas music until Christmas Eve, but my Dad took matters into his own hands. Every year on Christmas Eve and Christmas day while the stations were playing 24 hours of Christmas music, he would record them onto cassette tapes so we could listen to them in the car starting around Thanksgiving. So smart, Dad, so smart.

So, from a very young age, I grew to love the sounds of Christmas and would sing along and just as loud and annoying as my Dad.

DSC_0036

For many, many years, I thought a certain song was called Silver Balls and I would sing that loud and proud whenever I heard it. As we all got older, we continued singing Silver Balls and made that once joyous song a dirty song.

Now that my Dad is no longer with us, I try and carry on the tradition of blasting Christmas music and embarrassing my children as much as possible with my horrendous singing voice.

DSC_0039

What was the point of this post again? Oh, right. To show the rest of my decorations…as I was putting the rest of them up, Silver Balls Bells came on and sent me down memory lane.

DSC_0041

These are the only mice welcome in our house. To the little mouse I saw in the garage: You are not welcome!

DSC_0045

Now that my youngest is almost 4, it’s safe to put out the nativity set again. Poor figurines never stood a chance before…

DSC_0046

This was my Dad’s collection. JcPenney hands out these little snow globes on Black Friday and my Dad collected them every year. He died in April 2010, and we put the 2010 snowglobe on his headstone last year. This year we arrived at JcPenney at 4:05 this year (they opened at 4) and we were too late to get one. My Mom was devastated. If anyone has one from this year and you don’t want it, I will pay you for it. Seriously.

I love this little figurines and have them displayed all through the house. Little Cindy Loo above will be posted in every post from now until Christmas so keep your eyes peeled.

Don’t forget to enter the Primal Strips giveaway!!!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Why does it look I spelled beginning wrong?! Something about it just looks wrong, but whatever…

I’m not completely done yet, but thought I would share some of my Christmas decorations here, this is our first year where it’s our own house to do what we want and I love it!

Nothing like a mug of cocoa after playing out in the snow.

The tree. Pre-lit trees are amazing. I’ll never go back!

Christmas village. I need more pieces!! This was my mom’s and she gave it to me when she upgraded. I think I’ll hit up some stores after Christmas and buy more pieces for next year. Karlie helped me make the snow “hills.”

Stocking holders. Aren’t they cute?

I have more to show, but I’m waiting for the battery to charge on my camera so they will have to wait. Starting with my next post, we’re going to play a little game called “spot the elf.” I have this little elf that I thought would be fun to put in pictures and posts until Christmas is over :)

This is the elf:

She needs a name! Any one have any cute Elf names?

Don’t forget to enter the Mamma Chia Giveaway! It ends Monday morning.

December

I’m getting old. The years are flying by faster and faster and there isn’t anything I can do about it. The last time I blinked, it was July and I was here.

Doing a lot of this

And now it’s December, the Christmas tree is up, lights are up, decorations are almost done and I wonder how to slow time down!

But, since there isn’t a way to slow things down, I can soak up every thing I love about December and enjoy the ride!

Along with that and because I need a challenge in my life, I’m posting some goals for myself.

1. There are 2 milestones I’m very close to making and when I hit those, I will be celebrating. My goal is to reach those milestones by the end of the month.

2. It’s no secret that exercise is my downfall. My goal is to reach 300 minutes of exercise this month.

Since it’s the season of giving, I have 7 giveaways that will be coming your way very soon (the first one will be today); here’s what I will be giving away (keep in mind some will be coupons, and some actual product) and also some will be from my personal stash and some will be coming from the company directly.

1. Mamma Chia

2. Primal Strips

3. Veggie Patch and Tribe Hummus

4. Artisana

5. Bella Bars

6. Larabars

7. Bakery on Main

I’m very excited about each of these giveaways because I genuinely like each and every one of their products and I hope you will too!! So tell your friends and come back later today for the first giveaway :)

Not Giving Up

Looking around my meeting last Saturday I noticed a lot of people were missing. When I first joined that first Saturday in October, nearly every seat was filled and every week since then, more and more people have disappeared. Our leader pointed out last week that it’s the November slow down, typically people miss a meeting around Halloween and then say “forget it, I’ll start over in January.”  When I heard that I thought, well that’s just crazy…but I totally get it now. The weather is cooling and I find myself wanting all sorts of decadent foods that landed me in Weight Watchers to begin with! Just last night I had the thought:

“Maybe I should just forget it right now, enjoy the Holiday season and start fresh in January.”

I woke up this morning kicking myself for even thinking that! I have come way to far in the last 6 weeks to let it all go to waste and gain back the 9lbs I have lost and probably pack on even more.

No thank you.

I’m not giving up. I’m not giving in to my old thoughts and feelings. This is a new Jen. One who isn’t going to eat her weight in Thanksgiving goodies, Christmas cookies and every other decadent food this upcoming season will bring.

Will I have a few treats? Absolutely, but they will be planned for and marked down in my tracker. And, I will only indulge in things I really want, not eat just because it’s there. For so many years, I would find myself in the kitchen on Thanksgiving and just start eating…because I could. This year will be different. I am doing the cooking for Thanksgiving dinner and I can control what goes in my mouth and what goes on my plate. There are certain foods we only have on Thanksgiving, and those will be the indulgences. Foods like mashed potatoes, rolls and some other items will not be included on my plate.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t plan on depriving myself and making myself miserable through the Holiday season, I just want to be smarter about it this year and enjoy it without eating so much my whole body aches and screams in protest.
